Why July 4th is the dividing line

This is the big difference from Japan. In the U.S., the Independence Day (July 4) weekend is the busiest stretch of July. On top of that, American schools are on summer break from mid-June to mid-August, so baseline demand stays high all month. The Japanese playbook of going "before summer break" doesn't apply — instead, pick a weekday that avoids the July 4th weekend.
